10 Teams Set For Bidding Battle; Pant, Starc, Buttler, Iyer, Rahul Up For Grabs

IPL 2025 Mega Auction Live: Welcome to ABP Live’s live coverage of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction on November 24 (Sunday). The mega event, set to span over two days, will take place at the Abady Al Johar Arena in the city of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Held once every three years, the two-day event will feature marquee players like Rishabh Pant, Mitchell Starc, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and Jos Buttler going under the hammer. All 10 franchises will participate in the auction, which includes a pool of 577 players up for bidding.

Out of the 577 players in the IPL 2025 mega auction, 367 are Indian, while 210 are from overseas. Initially, 574 players had registered, but Jofra Archer of England, Saurabh Netravalkar of USA, and Hardik Tamore of India were later added to the list.

Each IPL team must have at least 18 players in their roster at the end of the auction. All IPL franchises have a total budget of Rs 120 crore, but enter the auction with less than that amount following the retention phase. Punjab Kings (PBKS) has the highest purse in the auction (Rs 110.5 cr), while Rajasthan Royals (RR) has the least (Rs 41 cr).

The IPL auction includes the Right to Match (RTM) rule, allowing teams to buy back former players at the auction’s final price. This year, the bid-winning team can make one final bid before the RTM is applied.

Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals are ineligible to use the Right-to-Match (RTM) card, having retained the maximum six players before the auction. The other eight franchises can use RTM, with Mumbai Indians restricted to using it only for uncapped players, as they have retained five capped players.

Notably, England’s James Anderson, at 43, is the oldest player in the IPL auction, while Bihar’s 14-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is the youngest. Both would be hoping to secure their first-ever IPL contract.
