Azamgarh Cop Salutes Local Leader In Viral Video, Suspended For ‘Breach Of Conduct’


Azamgarh News: A sub-inspector (SI) in Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh has been suspended following a viral video showing him saluting and shaking hands with a local leader Gagan Yadav during his visit to a grieving family in Saraypur village, under the Pawai police station area. The incident, deemed a breach of protocol, led to swift action by the Superintendent of Police (SP).  

The SI, identified as Gopal Maurya, was stationed at Pawai police station. According to Chirag Jain, a resident of the area, the incident occurred during Gagan Yadav’s visit to Saraypur to meet the family of a murder victim. SI Maurya, assigned to security duty along with two constables, saluted and shook hands with Yadav as soon as he alighted from his vehicle.

This act, captured on video, sparked reactions after being widely shared on social media.  

Taking cognisance of the matter, SP Azamgarh suspended SI Maurya with immediate effect.

Azamgarh Police On Viral Video: ‘Not In Accordance With Duty Or Protocol’

Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural), Chirag Jain, commented on the incident, stating: “A video has surfaced on social media on December 16. The sub-inspector saluted Gagan Yadav, which is not in accordance with his duty or protocol. Upon receiving this information, SI Gopal Maurya was suspended with immediate effect.”  

An investigation is underway, and further action will be taken based on the findings, the official added.
