Deep depression over Gangetic Bengal, heavy rain in Kolkata, North likely today: Met | Kolkata News


A deep depression over the Gangetic West Bengal is expected to bring heavy rainfall and strong wind to the region over the next few days.

According to the IMD, the deep depression is likely to move westwards across Jharkhand and north Chhattisgarh, and weaken gradually into a depression during the next 24 hours.

While the sea is likely to be very rough, strong winds blowing at a speed of 40-50 kmph are expected to continue till September 16 evening. Residents are advised to stay updated on the latest weather forecasts and take precautions, the weather office said.

The Met office has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall on Monday in several districts of North Bengal, including Purba and Paschim Bardhaman, Hooghly, Birbhum, Purba Medinipur, Jhargram, and South 24 Parganas.

Additionally, moderate flash flood risks are anticipated in certain areas of Bankura, Purba and Paschim Bardhaman, Birbhum, Purba and Paschim Medinipur, Howrah, Purulia, and North and South 24 Parganas, Nadia districts.

Most districts in South Bengal are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall, with heavy rains possible in Bankura, Purulia, and Paschim Medinipur.

Meanwhile, Kolkata and its neighbourhood recorded over 62 mm rainfall Sunday, the IMD said, adding that heavy rain is likely in Kolkata over next 12 hours. Waterlogging was reported in several parts of city while traffic was slow on EM Bypass, Central Avenue and Beliaghata Road. —With PTI
