Delhi L-G nod for agri land mutation in urban villages on inheritance basis | Delhi News

In a landmark decision, Lieutenant Governor (L-G) V K Saxena on Tuesday announced the decision to allow mutation for agricultural land based on inheritance in Delhi’s urban villages.

The L-G also laid the foundation stone for 41 new projects and inaugurated seven completed ones in 18 villages across Northwest Delhi.

Speaking at the event, Saxena described September 17 as a “historic day” for the villages of Delhi and reiterated the government’s commitment to improving living conditions in rural areas.

The decision to allow mutation has come after the L-G organised a ‘Samvaad’ with Delhi’s villages last December. During the discussion, this had emerged as the primary demand by the villages’ representatives. The seven MPs from Delhi had also met the L-G last week and requested that the matter of lack of ownership rights be addressed.

During the event on Tuesday, the L-G assured residents that camps will be set up in villages this week to begin the process of recording ownership rights.

Festive offer

The Dilli Gramodaya Abhiyan was launched last December, aiming to enhance civic amenities in rural areas. Till date, 573 projects worth Rs 523 crore have been sanctioned, with Rs 960 crore transferred to the Delhi Development Authority for implementation. The programme Tuesday covered villages in Kanjhawala, Rohini and Saraswati Vihar sub-divisions, which will see projects such as renovation and upgradation of public buildings as well as roads and drainage systems. Also, installation of streetlights will take place at Kirari Suleman Nagar, Mangolpur Khurd and Haiderpur, along with other projects.

The NaMo Drone Didi Scheme was also launched in the Northwest district with the enrolment of 156 women volunteers. The scheme aims to empower women by training them in drone technology, offering them new employment opportunities and allowing them to become a source of livelihood for their families.

Athletes such as 2024 Paralympics silver medalist Sharad Kumar and 2020 Olympics wrestling silver medalist Ravi Dahiya were also felicitated at the event.
