Encounters in Poonch, Kathua; 1 militant injured | India News

Encounters between security forces and militants broke out in Poonch and Kathua districts of J&K on Sunday. One militant was injured in the early hours of the day during the exchange of fire in Poonch, sources said.

The Poonch encounter started early Sunday in the Mendhar area when security forces were carrying out searches after getting information about the presence of militants in the area, sources said.

The militants opened fire, and security forces retaliated, leading to an exchange of fire that lasted until the militants managed to escape using the dense forests for cover, the sources said. However, sources said one of the three absconding militants appeared to be injured as trails of blood were found at the encounter site.

Later in the evening, security forces and police had an encounter with militants in the Bai area of Kathua district. This came after militants opened fire on a joint party of the security forces and police, who were conducting searches in the forests, sources said. The area has been cordoned by the search parties.
