Jewar airport will become the second major airport in the National Capital Region (NCR) after the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of Jewar Airport in November 2021.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation has instructed NIAL and other relevant authorities to finalise flight schedules and other critical operational timelines ahead of the airport’s opening to ensure a smooth and timely launch.
Initially expected to open by the end of September this year, the airport’s commercial operations were delayed. It is now expected to accommodate up to 65 flights daily, including 62 on domestic routes, two for international destinations, and one cargo flight.
The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a hi-tech township located just 15 minutes away from the Jewar International Airport. The project by Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) is situated in Sector-24A of Noida, one kilometre from the International Film City, 500 metres from the Yamuna Expressway and close to the MotoGP track, an official statement issued here said.
“The concessionaire has submitted a plan to start commercial operations by April 17. However, we are exploring the possibility of bringing the launch date forward. Any delay beyond April 17 could push the timeline for securing international approvals and time slots from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) by another six months,” NIAL CEO Arun Vir Singh earlier told The Times of India.
Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, Noida Commissioner Laxmi Singh, MPs, MLAs, and DGCA officials attended.
