Indian Team Suffer Injury Scare As Star Batsman Remains Doubtful For…

Australia Vs India, 1st Test: Indian Cricket Team have dealt a huge blow ahead of their first Test match against Australia in Perth, as Shubman Gill has been deemed doubtful for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series opener.

As reported by PTI, the star batsman sustained a fracture on his left thumb during the intra-squad match, and can be ruled out for few weeks.

“Gill got hurt while fielding on the second day of the intra-squad match simulation. He was seen in considerable pain and immediately left the field for further scans. According to a BCCI source privy to the development, Gill has indeed fractured his left thumb and with less than a week left for the Test to start, it will be near impossible for the stylish right-hander to get fit in time for the opening match,” reported PTI

“A thumb fracture generally takes around 14 days to heal after which one is expected to start his regular net sessions. Since the second Test in Adelaide starts from December 6, there remains a possibility that he will get fit in time for that match,” PTI added.

Opening Slot Concerns After Shubman Gill’s Latest Injury

Yashasvi Jaiswal stands as the lone fit opener for Team India, as other opening options are most probably missing out on the Perth Test. Rohit Sharma has not travelled with the squad due to personal reasons, and KL Rahul is joined by Shubman Gill as the players who have sustained injuries days before the first Test match.

If that remains the case, then Indian management will have to hand Abhimanyu Easwaran his Test debut, who recently played two unofficial Test matches for India-A against Australia-A.
