Jasprit Bumrah Shines With 6-Wicket Haul As Australia Post 445 Runs At The Gabba

IND vs AUS 3rd Test, Brisbane: Australia were all out for a mammoth 445 runs in the first innings of the India vs Australia 3rd Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 at The Gabba in Brisbane on December 16 (Monday). India star pacer Jasprit Bumrah was the lone bright spot for the visitors as he looked a league apart from the rest of the bowlers, finishing with figures of 6-76 in 28 overs.

Resuming Day 3 at their overnight score of 405-7, Australia added 40 more runs, largely thanks to wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey, who scored a quickfire 70 off 88 balls with seven boundaries and two sixes. Mitchell Starc contributed a handy 18-run cameo. Jasprit Bumrah opened the bowling for India and quickly claimed his sixth wicket by dismissing Starc. Mohammed Siraj cleaned up Nathan Lyon, while Akashdeep took the final wicket, dismissing Carey.

Travis Head, Steve Smith Headline Day 2 For Australia

Earlier in the match, Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first, a decision that surprised many. Day 1 of the IND vs AUS Test in Brisbane could only see 13.2 overs of cricket as rain washed out nearly an entire day. Day 2, however, saw an uninterrupted cricket and was largely headlined by Steve Smith, Travis Head and Jasprit Bumrah.

Bumrah was quick to remove both Australian openers in Nathan McSweeney and Usman Khawaja. Marnus Labuschagne looked to be playing a patient knock but Nitish Reddy got him to edge one to Virat Kohli in the slips.

Smith and Head, however, joined hands for a 241-run stand and racked up their individual centuries and drove Australia in a very powerful position. Head scored 152 off just 160 balls and Smith ended his Test hundred drought by 101 runs, his 33rd Test century.

Bumrah eventually broke the partnership, dismissing both Head and Smith, and emerged as the standout bowler for India. On a pitch offering opportunities for both batters and bowlers, Bumrah claimed an impressive 6-76 in 28 overs, securing his 12th five-wicket haul in Test cricket.
