Narendra Modi Rahul Gandhi Yogi Adityanath Kejriwal Atishi Mourn demise of ex pm


Leaders from the ruling BJP to the opposition parties unite to mourn the demise of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Singh breathed his last at AIIMS, New Delhi on Thursday evening.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was quick to condole the passing away of Manmohan Singh. Modi said that the country mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished leaders and added that Singh left a strong imprint on our economic policy over the years. 

“India mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished leaders, Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji. Rising from humble origins, he rose to become a respected economist. He served in various government positions as well, including as Finance Minister, leaving a strong imprint on our economic policy over the years. His interventions in Parliament were also insightful. As our Prime Minister, he made extensive efforts to improve people’s lives,” PM Modi said.

Congress party, of which the former PM was a member, said that history will always remember Manmohan Singh for his dignified demeanor, commitment to public service, profound wisdom and humility. 

“He leaves behind a legacy of economic reforms, political stability, and dedication to uplift the lives of every Indian. His tenure first as a technocrat and then as India’s Prime Minister will be remembered for economic prosperity with focus on social welfare, and strengthening of India’s position on the world map. Known for his quiet but resilient leadership, he was a man of principle who made tough decisions with care, concern and a steadfast commitment to nothing but the country’s welfare above all else,” the party said in a post on X.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that Manmohan Singh led India with immense wisdom and integrity and added that his humility and deep understanding of economics inspired the nation.

“I have lost a mentor and guide. Millions of us who admired him will remember him with the utmost pride,” Gandhi said.

A medical bulletin from the AIIMS New Delhi said that the former PM was being treated for age-related medical conditions and had sudden loss of consciousness at home on December 26.

“Resuscitative measures were started immediately at home. He was brought to the Medical Emergency at AIMS, New Delhi at 8:06 PM. Despite all efforts, he could not be revived and was declared dead at 9:51 PM,” the medical bulletin said.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath that the demise of Singh is extremely sad and an irreparable loss to Indian politics.

“As Finance Minister and Prime Minister, he played an important role in the governance of the country. Humble tribute to him! I pray to Lord Shri Ram to grant salvation to the departed soul and give strength to his bereaved family and supporters to bear this immense sorrow,” CM Yogi said. 

BJP President JP Nadda said that the ex-PM’s demise is an immense loss for the nation. 

“A visionary statesman and a stalwart of Indian politics, throughout his remarkable career in public service, he consistently voiced for the welfare of the downtrodden. His leadership earned admiration and respect across party lines. Shri Manmohan Singh ji’s legacy will continue to inspire generations in their pursuit of nation-building. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and admirers,” Nadda said.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that with Singh’s demise India has lost a great scholar, economist and statesman.

“His contributions in Indian economic reforms, serving our Nation as PM for 10 years, will be remembered forever. My heartfelt tributes to him. Deepest condolences to his family, friends and admirers,” the Maharashtra CM said. 

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi said that the country has not just lost a world renowned economist, but a leader whose erudition and dignity will always be remembered.

Meanwhile, Arvind Kerjriwal said, “The demise of former Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh is an irreparable loss for the country. It is impossible to put his qualities of wisdom and simplicity into words. May God grant the noble soul a place in his lotus feet. My condolences to his family and well-wishers.”

AAP leader Raghav Chadha said that Dr Manmohan Singh steered India through difficult times and into a new era. 

“An Oxford-educated economist, he spearheaded India’s 1991 economic reforms and led the nation as Prime Minister with quiet determination, proving that intellect and integrity can drive transformative change. I join the nation in mourning the passing of one of our most distinguished statesmen. His legacy will endure and inspire generations to come. I consider myself blessed and privileged to have had the opportunity to work alongside him in the Rajya Sabha. My deepest condolences to his family. RIP, Sir. Om Shanti,” Chadha said.

Congress leader Sachin Pilot said that Singh dedicated his life to serving the nation and added that he will be remembered for his wisdom and invaluable contributions to India’s economic growth.  

“It was an honor to have worked with him in his cabinet. He was the quintessential gentleman – kind, soft spoken, courteous and humble. A scholar, a visionary, a consensus maker, and a true Congressman,” Pilot said.
