A video of the incident showing a scooter rider going airborne after hitting an unmarked speed breaker installed in front of the clock tower in Dehradun has surfaced on social media. The speed breaker has caused trouble to several vehicles due to a lack of proper markings.
The viral video shows, a scooter approaching a speed breaker at moderate speed. Upon hitting the bump, the scooter is unexpectedly launched into the air, causing the rider to be thrown off. After a brief pause, the rider gets back up and rides away, appearing unharmed.
स्पीड ब्रेकर बनाकर प्रशासन ने अपनी इतिश्री तो कर ली लेकिन जनता भी अपनी स्पीड धीमी करने को तैयार नहीं। परिणाम आपके सामने है।#DehradunAccident https://t.co/PBQLd0gYzR pic.twitter.com/jWsHWeu5k7

Reacting to the video, Congress spokesperson Garima Mehra Dasauni said in a post on X, “This is the condition of Uttarakhand government Seeing the increase in road accidents, the government and administration took the initiative to build speed breakers and zebra crossings at various places but see the height of insensitivity and negligence that the speed breakers have been made as big as mountains which are proving to be fatal and dangerous.”

She further added that 7 accidents were discovered in half an hour at the speed breaker built at Ghanta Ghar in which a small child got injured.
The speed breaker, meant to control speeding, has been the cause of numerous accidents due to its flawed design. Poor marking and excessive height make it especially hazardous for four-wheelers. The absence of proper signage and visibility leaves drivers unprepared, leading to a spike in accidents.
Speeding BMW Hit An Unmarked Speed Breaker In Gurugram
A similar incident occurred in October in Gurugram, where a speeding BMW hit an unmarked speed breaker on Golf Course Road and was launched into the air, landing 15 feet away. The same video showed two trucks encountering the same unmarked bump and being thrown into the air.

As per the NDTV report, after backlash on social media, authorities acted days later. The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) installed a warning sign reading “Speed Breaker Ahead” and marked the bump with thermoplastic white paint to improve visibility, especially at night.
