Opposition Aghadi MLAs Take Oath A Day After Boycotting Ceremony Over EVM ‘Misuse’

Maharashtra Govt Formation: Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) MLAs took oath in the Maharashtra Assembly on Sunday, a day after boycotting the ceremony alleging misuse of EVMs in the recently-held state elections. Sunday was the second day of the special three-day session of the assembly.

Congress’s Nana Patole, Vijay Wadettiwar and Amit Deshmukh, NCP (SP) leader Jitendra Awhad, Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Aaditya Thackeray and Rohit Pawar were some of the prominent opposition MLAs who took oath as soon as the House reassembled for the day. The opposition had earlier cited that it was also protesting against the curfew and arrests in Markadwadi village in the Malshiras assembly constituency in Solapur, where villagers sought a ‘repoll’ using ballot papers. Only 173 MLAs took oath on Saturday.

Samajwadi Party Behaves Like BJP’s B Team: Aaditya Thackeray

After taking the oath, Aaditya Thackeray accused the Samajwadi Party of being the “B team of BJP”. When he was asked to comment on reports of SP quitting MVA in Maharashtra, Thackeray said, “I would not like to comment much on them. Akhilesh Yadav is fighting his fight but the SP here (Maharashtra unit of SP) sometimes behaves like the B team of BJP…Our Hindutva is clear…Our Hindutva is about ‘hriday mein Ram aur haath ko kaam’…Our Hindutva is about taking everyone together…

The Mahayuti alliance of BJP, Eknath Shinde‘s Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar-led NCP retained power, winning 230 of the 288 assembly seats in the November 20 assembly polls. The BJP won 132 seats, the Shiv Sena 57 and the NCP got 41 seats. The opposition MVA managed to win only 46 seats with Shiv Sena (UBT) getting 20, Congress 16 and NCP (SP) 10.
