A Kolkata-based model who had recently received backlash for wearing “indecent” clothes to a Durga Puja pandal has once again raised eyebrows on social media with her towel dance at the India Gate in Delhi.
The model, Sannati Mitra, posted a video on her social media account on Instagram in which she can be seen dancing in a towel while lip-syncing to a song from the Bollywood classic Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. The video looked like a recreation of Actor Kajol’s dance sequence in the film where her character ‘Simran’ danced in a towel in her room.
However, several netizens were outraged as they did not like that she was dancing in a towel at such a significant public place.
The video was uploaded on International Men’s Day and has garnered over one million views since it was uploaded on Tuesday. “Happy International Men’s day. May you all continue to inspire and motivate others with your courage, kindness and empathy,” she wrote in the caption.
While the video has nearly 15 lakh likes, several viewers expressed displeasure over her performance at a place which has a historical significance.
In the video, Mitra can be seen dancing in the towel as the crowd around her including children look on. She even partially removed the towel at one point.
Social media users have called her out for her “cheap tactics”, calling her performance an attempt to gain fame using “obscenity”. Social media users were outraged after seeing the post and condemned her for “crossing all limits”. Some of them demanded action against her for displaying “vulgarity” at a public place which was built for the martyrs of the country. The comments on the post have now been limited after the row began.
In another video posted on her account, the model can be seen asking foreigners whether they feel safe in India. The video was shot at the India Gate and Mitra interviewed people wearing the white towel.
In the previous instance when Mitra was caught up in a similar controversy was over a photo that she had posted from her visit at a Durga Puja pandal in Kolkata. She along with two other women were seen donning outfits with cleavage-baring tops, which the netizens said were unsuitable for wearing at a religious setting.
Mitra was spotted wearing a black gown which had a thigh-high slit and the women accompanying her wore similar attire. “It was so Rebellious, we never thought it was possible, being a girl we always knew our body is ‘BAD’ but life is like that it gives new examples and experiences [sic],” Mitra wrote in the caption of the post on Instagram.
“Everyone has the right to wear clothes of their choice, but don’t they know how to wear clothes accordingly while going to a temple?” a social media user commented. “Consider it backward thinking but this is stupidity,” another user said.
However, the model defended her post stressing that there was nothing wrong with her outfit.
